Individual voice lessons are available for upper elementary school age children through adults. Vocal technique, sight-singing and theory are interwoven in lessons emphasizing healthy vocal production and may include folk songs, Broadway and popular songs, jazz standards and classical repertoire. You are invited to contact a teacher to discuss your particular interests and vocal goals.

OUR VOICE TEACHERS


PHYLLIS MELGAARD studied voice at Golden Valley Lutheran College and Mankato State University, with graduate study at Pensacola Christian College. She has also studied privately with Bonnevieve Fenton here in the Twin Cities. She is a soloist in her church and freelancers as a vocalist. She works with each student on pitch training, breath control, tone production, and all the other skills necessary for a vocalist, using standard vocal repertoire, while also including the styles of music with which each student is most comfortable. Phyllis teaches on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

ALANNA BACH KUCERA, soprano, is pleased to join the vocal staff at Minnesota Valley School of Music.  She holds a B.A. in General Music with a vocal emphasis from Northwestern College in St. Paul where she studied voice with Karen Wilkerson and opera with Doreen Hutchings.  As a recent graduate of Northwestern, she has several years of teaching experience, as well as coursework in education.  Her performing experience includes both opera and musical theatre genres and an extensive choral background.  Her future plans include attending graduate school to pursue a degree in vocal literature and pedagogy.  Ms. Kucera teaches on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

ROCHELLE RANDY LARSEN studied voice at Indiana University before attending the University of Minnesota where she received a B.A. degree in social work while also studying voice. She continued to study classical voice with Madalyn Traun for over 15 years, followed by jazz with Les Tucker of Chicago and Vicki Mountain at MacPhail Center for the Arts. Other credits include soloist at Richfield United Methodist Church, chorus of the Metropolitan Opera production of “Aida”, Minnetonka Choral Society and many operetta company and musical theater   productions. Rochelle is a vocalist with Beasley’s’ Big Band and also performs with various jazz groups in the Twin Cities. She has toured and performed with well known musicians. With a solid background in vocal technique, style interpretation and performance experience, Rochelle offers students an opportunity to learn good vocal skills while developing their own unique style and voice. Rochelle teaches on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
